About the Item

There are certain furniture makers whose work instantly resonates with collectors, designers, and discerning homeowners. American of Martinsville is among them. This beautifully crafted faux bamboo writing desk exemplifies the company's celebrated ability to blend refined craftsmanship with relaxed sophistication. Produced during the golden era of American design, it seamlessly combines Hollywood Regency glamour with British Colonial influences and the tropical elegance that continues to inspire today's most coveted interiors. The desk is constructed in warm walnut with beautifully executed faux bamboo turnings throughout the frame. Every leg, stretcher, and drawer pull has been carefully shaped to mimic natural bamboo, creating wonderful texture and architectural rhythm without sacrificing the clean lines associated with Mid-Century Modern design. The drawer features woven cane fronts framed by faux bamboo molding, introducing an additional layer of organic texture that has become highly sought after by today's leading interior designers. The contrast between the warm wood tones, woven cane, and sculptural bamboo details gives the piece an effortless sophistication that works equally well in traditional, coastal, Palm Beach, English Country, or contemporary interiors. Its slim proportions make it incredibly versatile. While originally designed as a writing desk, it is equally at home as an elegant console table, vanity, entry table, or laptop desk. American of Martinsville furniture has enjoyed a significant resurgence in recent years as collectors increasingly appreciate the exceptional quality, timeless styling, and enduring craftsmanship of the company's designs. This particular example perfectly captures the organic luxury aesthetic currently favored by many of the world's leading designers. Whether placed beneath a large mirror in an entry, styled with artwork in a living room, or used as a sophisticated home office desk, it immediately becomes the focal point of the room. Antique Two-Tier Cane and Scorched Bamboo Tiger Wood Side Table with Storage Top

Antique Two-Tier Cane and Scorched Bamboo Tiger Wood Side Table with Storage Top

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

Antique Victorian Aesthetic movement two-tier scorched bamboo and cane tigerwood side table or occasional table with box storage on top. Bamboo occasional tables like this, are a cult favorite among those in the design circle as well as discerning collectors across the globe. Evoking a tropical or British Colonial vibe, these tables are rare to find, and always a classic timeless piece for just about any room in the home. You'll find this classic bamboo side table while flipping through the pages of nearly every design magazine. Understated, perhaps because of it’s size, it packs a big punch. It serves as both form and function with two areas for storage. Both a hidden box, as well as a bottom open shelf. Born in the 19th century, this piece is created out of bamboo. Other terms used to describe this type of material and finish, are scorched bamboo or tortoiseshell bamboo or tiger bamboo. This particular piece is square in form and has four legs. The top of the table is square and features a box with a liftable lid for storage. Fastened with a hinge, it is a great way to hide little things that make a space feel cluttered. (TV remotes, reading glasses, etc.) When closed, the top functions as a normal tabletop. We envision a beautiful vase sitting atop a stack of well-loved books. Under the top of the table, sits a second open tier shelf for additional storage. Again, we think this would be a great way to showcase a stack of your favorite books or a small bowl of fresh flowers. Both the top of the table, and the sides are covered in what is sometimes called rice matt. It's more of a woven fiber much like cane or wicker, and can often be mistaken for grasscloth. This piece would be fabulous if used in a number of ways: 1.) Our dear friend suggested using this as her "smoking box". With the inside holding the items she wouldn't necessarily want in view, but in a convenient enough place to quickly grab things should she need/want to. 2.) Entry table: To eliminate the mess of setting keys and sunglasses on a table, we think this small table box would be a great place to set keys and sunglasses inside, and then closed, to set a purse on top of. 3.) Patio: A lovely plant stand between two patio chairs...

Vintage Bamboo and Rattan Sewing Basket Side Table with Lid - Organic Modern

Vintage Bamboo and Rattan Sewing Basket Side Table with Lid - Organic Modern

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

There are certain pieces that immediately transport you to a different place—a sun-drenched veranda in Palm Beach, a colonial bungalow in Singapore, or an elegant English country house layered with natural textures collected over decades. This is one of those pieces. An exceptionally charming vintage bamboo and tightly handwoven rattan sewing table, elevated on gracefully curved bamboo legs with an integrated lower shelf and removable lift-top lid concealing generous interior storage. Originally designed as a sewing or needlework stand, this piece has evolved into one of today's most versatile decorative furnishings. Whether styled beside a sofa, next to a reading chair, or in a guest bedroom, it effortlessly bridges British Colonial, Palm Beach Regency, Organic Modern, and Coastal interiors. The craftsmanship is what immediately sets this example apart. The intricate, tightly woven rattan panels are framed by beautifully executed braided rattan trim, while naturally curved bamboo legs create an airy architectural silhouette that feels both sculptural and refined. Every joint is thoughtfully wrapped in hand-tied rattan bindings, demonstrating the meticulous craftsmanship associated with quality mid-century cane furniture. The removable lid reveals a surprisingly spacious storage compartment—perfect for throws, magazines, knitting supplies, children's toys, remote controls, or everyday living essentials. The lower woven shelf provides additional display or storage space while maintaining the table's light visual footprint. While unmarked, the construction strongly recalls fine bamboo and rattan furniture produced during the mid-20th century by respected makers working in the British Colonial tradition. Its quality and design are reminiscent of pieces retailed by McGuire, Maitland-Smith, Henry Olko, and Vivai del Sud, though no maker attribution is implied. Today, pieces like this have become increasingly desirable as designers continue embracing natural materials, layered textures, and collected interiors. Unlike newly manufactured rattan furniture, this vintage example possesses the warm honey patina and subtle tonal variation that only decades of age can produce. Beautiful from every angle, this is the type of piece designers constantly source for projects because it functions equally as furniture, storage, and sculpture. Perfect For Palm Beach interiors British Colonial homes Organic Modern spaces Coastal cottages Ralph Lauren-inspired interiors Nancy Meyers-style homes Lake houses Reading nooks Guest bedrooms Luxury bathrooms Sunrooms Nursery storage Entryways Styling Ideas: This piece offers far more versatility than its original purpose. Use as a sophisticated end table beside a linen slipcovered sofa...
