About the Item

This remarkable Italian executive desk, attributed to Vittorio Dassi and produced around 1957, perfectly embodies the refined aesthetic that distinguished the finest Italian furniture of the post-war period. Designed for executive offices and prestigious professional interiors, it combines sculptural presence with outstanding functionality, resulting in a desk that is both practical and visually striking. Its most distinctive feature is the generously proportioned floating rare wood desktop, whose softly rounded edges create an elegant sense of lightness despite its impressive dimensions. Rather than resting directly on the drawer cabinets, the top appears suspended above the structure, an architectural solution that gives the entire composition remarkable visual balance while highlighting the quality of its construction. The desk is veneered in beautifully figured teak, selected for its rich reddish-brown tones and dramatic natural grain. The veneer has been carefully matched across every surface, allowing the wood itself to become the principal decorative element. The continuous grain flowing around the softly rounded drawer cabinets demonstrates the level of craftsmanship associated with Italy's finest cabinetmakers during the 1950s. Storage is provided by six drawers, arranged symmetrically within two suspended pedestal units. Each drawer is fitted with large oval solid brass pulls, whose sculptural shape creates a refined contrast against the warmth of the teak. The locks remain positioned above the upper drawers, preserving the original executive character of the piece. Viewed from the rear, the desk is equally impressive. The suspended pedestal cabinets and the sculpted central modesty panel transform what is often a purely functional element into an integral part of the design, allowing the desk to stand freely at the center of a room. This attention to every visible angle reflects the philosophy of high-end Italian executive furniture, where the rear elevation received the same care as the front. The cabinet stands on elegant tapered conical legs finished with solid brass sabots. Together with the rounded corners and softly curved cabinet edges, these details create a harmonious dialogue between geometry and fluidity, one of the defining characteristics of Vittorio Dassi's furniture. Beyond its elegant appearance, the desk reflects the exceptional quality of Italian cabinetmaking of the period. The precision of the joinery, the seamless veneer matching, the carefully proportioned volumes and the refined brass details all contribute to a piece conceived to serve generations while maintaining its timeless elegance. The desk has been recently restored with great respect for its original materials and finishes. It is presented in very good condition, preserving the warmth of the teak and the original character of its brass fittings while being fully ready for everyday use.
