About the Item

A handsome and substantial partner’s pedestal desk in finely figured mahogany, designed to be freestanding and finished on all sides. The rectangular top is inset with a rich brown tooled leather writing surface, decorated with a gilt Greek key border and framed by a moulded edge, offering both elegance and practicality. The desk features an arrangement of nine drawers to the working side, including three frieze drawers above twin pedestals fitted with graduated drawers retaining ornate brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. The corners are embellished with carved vertical ornament, adding subtle classical detail to the otherwise clean architectural form. The opposing side is equally well finished and fitted with three frieze drawers above cupboard doors, each opening to useful interior shelving, making the piece suitable for use at the center of a room.
