About the Item

A classic American mid-century modern steel tanker desk, circa 1960s, featuring a olive green finish and custom protective glass top. This iconic double-pedestal form is constructed entirely of heavy-gauge steel and retains its strong architectural presence, complemented by warm brass hardware and tapered brass-tone legs. The desk offers a traditional and highly functional layout with three graduated drawers to the left, two drawers to the right, a pull-out writing surface on both sides, and a central locking pencil drawer. Original steel drawer interiors include adjustable file rails and smooth-gliding mechanisms, designed for practical everyday use. The substantial steel construction provides excellent durability and weight, making this piece ideal for long-term daily service in both residential and commercial environments. A custom-cut glass top has been added to protect the surface while providing a refined presentation. The desk was repainted at some point in a sophisticated olive green tone; however, it now shows visible scratches and signs of use throughout from regular service, giving the piece an honest, broken-in character consistent with vintage industrial furniture. These imperfections contribute to its authentic patina and can be enjoyed as-is or refinished again to suit a new owner’s vision. This versatile desk works beautifully in Mid-Century Modern, Industrial, Contemporary, or Post-Modern interiors, and would be equally at home in a designer office, creative studio, retail environment, or executive workspace. Its clean architectural lines and classic tanker silhouette make it a timeless and functional statement piece with enduring appeal. MEASUREMENTS: H 29.25" x W 68" x D 36.25" Leg Opening is H 24.75" x W 24.75" CONDITION: Overall good condition with minor scratches throughout, and one area with heavier scratching (see pics).
