About the Item

The designer Osvaldo Borsani designed this executive desk, model ‘T96’, for Tecnodit in 1956. It was made of lacquered wood, steel, and chrome-plated metal in Italy, but produced in 1958. The model was originally part of the coordinated furniture collection for the ENI building in San Donato Milanese. The original slanted shape of the tabletop was inspired by the hexagonal floor plan of the building, designed by Marcello Nizzoli and Mario Oliveri. The shape of the T96 desk was less rigid and more dynamic, which made it attractive. The rotating drawers made it an innovative model. This met the growing needs of modern offices at the time, where functionality played a major role, while ease of use and interaction took precedence. The tabletop is shaped like a boomerang and is inlaid with a leather sheet that is embedded in the desk and held in place with small magnets, making it easy to remove, clean, or replace the leather with a different color as desired. The desk is supported by tripod legs. The drawers are attached to the legs with a swivel function, allowing the user to adjust the position of the drawers. The large drawer unit has an extra support leg. Furthermore, the cabinets are interchangeable. The black lacquered wood gives the desk its distinctive, characteristic appearance. This offers a unique perspective and creates a different visual appeal, allowing this desk to be placed freely in the room. This allows you to make a statement or add an impression to the location where it stands. This desk has been fully restored by experienced craftsmen and repainted with high-quality, durable lacquer to prevent scratches. With great attention to the original, they ensure that every component retains its value and is ready for many years to come. Literature: Bosoni, Giampiero. A Discreetly Technical Elegance. Tecno. Milan: Skira, 2011, pp. 161–172, 173. Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was an Italian designer and architect, born into a family of furniture makers in Varedo. Osvaldo Borsani died in Milan in 1985. His versatile and refined oeuvre can be found in permanent collections, such as those of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Neue Sammlung in Munich, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Trienalle di Milano Museum.
