About the Item

Maker:Slezák - KOVONA Architect: André Lurcat Model: PS 8 This writing desk is an absolutely exceptional and architecturally pure example of avant-garde furniture design in the Bauhaus style from the 1940s. This timeless model was designed by the celebrated French modernist architect André Lurçat and manufactured in Czechoslovakia by the KOVONA company. The history of this design is fascinating – during the interwar period, this identical model was successfully produced by the Robert Slezák company under the popular catalog designation PS8. The desk stands out due to its striking asymmetrical composition, masterfully blending a generous workspace with integrated storage. As part of a comprehensive and uncompromising restoration, the original tubular steel frame was completely stripped and newly re-chromed to a flawless, brilliant mirror finish. All wooden elements are finished in premium walnut veneer, showcasing an extraordinarily rich, warm, and elegant grain. The wooden surfaces received a completely new, hand-applied wood polish, which lends the walnut texture a fantastic depth and a silky luster. The desk features a practical three-drawer pedestal with original chrome handles and an extended side shelf that provides visual weightlessness to the structure. This meticulously restored piece represents a top-tier collector's and investment item that will anchor any modern or historic study. Dimensions of the desk: Height: 75 cm (29.5 in) Width: 150 cm (59 in) Depth: 72 cm (28.3 in) Leg space: Height: 72 cm (28.3 in) Width: 75 cm (29.5 in) It has been re-polished with polyutherane piano lacquer by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process. This item features classic Bauhaus design elements. Elements of this style are neutral colors and occasional bright primary colors. Bauhaus designers avoided the fussy and pretentious, looking for clean, modern lines. Perfect for a timeless yet modern look.
