About the Item

Crafted in France circa 1880, this exceptional antique refectory table is built from solid oak and exemplifies the robust character of Louis XIII–inspired provincial furniture. The thick two-plank top displays pronounced grain, knots, age separations, and surface wear developed over decades of use, all enhanced by a warm, time-softened patina and gently worn edges. The plank top retains visible hand-cut wooden pegs, a traditional construction detail typical of 19th century French provincial tables. The table rests on a classic trestle base with shaped uprights and sculpted feet, joined by a substantial through-tenon stretcher secured with exposed wooden wedges. Traditional pegged joinery and bold proportions provide excellent structural integrity while giving the table strong architectural presence. Comfortably seating eight to ten people, this antique oak monastery table is ideal as a dining table, harvest table, or large kitchen centerpiece. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with old repairs and surface variations that enhance its authenticity and visual appeal. Dimensions: 87.75"W x 32.25"D x 29.25"H
