About the Item

A substantial and sculpturally commanding solid oak extendable dining table in the Danish Brutalist tradition, dating to the 1960s and bearing its original maker's label — a piece that unites the raw material honesty of Nordic folk cabinetry with a formal boldness that speaks directly to the current appetite for organic, handcrafted Scandinavian furniture of genuine provenance. The trestle bases are the defining element: each leg is cut from thick solid oak into a sinuous, organic silhouette — waisted at the centre, flaring dramatically at the foot — that reads as both architecturally bold and surprisingly fluid. The stretcher rail connecting the two trestles is secured by an exposed, hand-shaped wooden key joint, a constructional detail of considerable artisanal confidence that functions simultaneously as a structural fastener and a decorative statement. The tabletop is constructed from wide-plank solid oak boards displaying an exceptionally open, pronounced grain — warm honey in tone with subtle variation across its breadth. The edges are softened to a generous bullnose profile, preventing the mass of the top from reading as heavy. Two extension leaves are stored on fitted metal runners beneath the top, each surfaced in matching oak and deploying flush with the main top when extended — allowing the table to seat comfortably from six to ten.
