About the Item

Rustic yet minimal, these antique Chinese display tables find their place in the modern home as nightstands, side tables or pedestals. Dated to the late 19th century, the pair is crafted of northern elm (yumu) with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, without the use of nails or screws. Likely originally used to elevate lanterns or incense burners, each small table has a square-corner design with straight legs, one drawer and an open, lower shelf. Subtle detail sets the tables apart, like the curvature of the inner corners or the rich patina that softens the wood grain.
