About the Item

A rare circa 1900 English tabletop skittles table, retaining its original skittle pins and metalwork. Tabletop skittles was a popular parlor game in late 19th and early 20th century England, enjoyed in both private homes and public houses as a compact indoor version of traditional bowling. The table is crafted in solid wood with a rich, warm finish and turned legs, reflecting quality joinery typical of the period. The playing surface is fitted with elaborate gilt metal galleries and guards, forming a serpentine course designed to challenge the player’s aim and control. The original metalwork, including the decorative rails and fittings, remains intact and displays a beautiful aged patina consistent with its age. The skittle pins are original to the table, an increasingly rare feature that enhances both authenticity and value. The combination of carved wood construction and ornate gilt metal detailing gives the piece a striking visual presence.
