Bolete Side Table by Henry D'ath In collaboration with Batten and Kamp Dimensions: D 40 x W 45 x H 45 cm Materials: Hand carved solid wood, granite, calligraphy ink. Available in natural or black ink finishes. The Bolete side table. A serendipitous pairing of elements defined through two separate means of practice. The base, a natural granite boulder with cut and polished ends. The top, a heavily worked piece of timber liquid in appearance. Both coming together to make this curiously organic object. The top is finished with many coats of calligraphy ink, assuming a hidden silhouette when in shadow, and becoming almost metallic in the presence of direct light. The stone base remains natural in finish. Henry d’ath is a New Zealand-born, Hong Kong-based artist and architect. Using predominantly salvaged material, the artist routinely handworks each piece over many months resulting in lucid, yet ambiguously functional pieces of sculpture. Each work in this current collection is an individual edition in an ongoing series, hand-made by the artist themselves.
