About the Item

Island is a sculptural and dynamic display system, that encourages the user to interact with and modify their display. It has three levels, where the top level has a wave-like pattern, mimicking the ocean. It also consists of several display trays with the same texture, that can be placed within the waves, creating small display islands throughout the seascape. The islands ensure the display items stay in place, and invite the user to play around with spacing and compositions within the display. The wavy texture of the shelf discourages people from placing stray items within the display, keeping the surrounding area clear. ‘The two bottom shelves can be used for storing objects the user can rotate into the display, creating an ever-changing expression. Island is handmade in a lovely pinkish Douglas fir, with techniques that enhance the natural structure of the wood, contributing to the visual expression of the waves.
