About the Item

The A2 table by Bengt-Johan Gullberg is a striking example of Scandinavian Modern design, combining architectural clarity with elegant minimalism. Its distinctive wire base forms an intricate geometric structure that gives the table a light, sculptural presence while ensuring stability. The solid wooden top provides a warm contrast to the graphic metal framework, highlighting the refined balance between materiality and form. Designed with both functionality and artistic expression in mind, the A2 table works beautifully as a coffee table or centerpiece in a modern interior. A timeless piece that embodies the innovation and craftsmanship of mid-century Scandinavian design. Depending on how the base is positioned, the table can function as a coffee table, a side table, or even a compact dining table. The size of the tabletop is 120 x 75 cm, the heights are 52 cm, 73 cm or 98 cm. It is in very good condition with som slight wear of use and some scratches in the table top. Bengt-Johan Gullberg (1919–2015) was a Swedish architect and furniture designer known for his influential contributions to mid-century Scandinavian design. From 1948 to 1954, he served as CEO of his mother’s company, Elsa Gullberg Textiles and Interior, where he helped introduce modular furniture systems that emphasized adaptability and practical living. Gullberg’s design language was defined by clean lines, minimalist construction, and intelligent functionality. His iconic “A2” table, created in the early 1950s, exemplifies this approach: a versatile piece with a teak top and a lacquered metal base that can be positioned at multiple heights, allowing it to serve as a coffee table, dining table, or console. Through his work, Gullberg played a meaningful role in shaping the Scandinavian Modern movement, uniting refined form with everyday usability.
