The design maintains the symbolic concept of the original project while introducing a new geometric balance that emphasizes the relationship between natural material and architectural structure. The tabletop is made of ancient Kauri wood combined with transparent resin. The composition creates a stylized representation of the Earth: the wooden sections metaphorically evoke the continents, while the resin surfaces recall the oceans that surround them. The irregular shapes of the wood interact with the clarity of the resin to form a dynamic surface where natural history and contemporary design coexist. Kauri wood (Agathis australis) is one of the rarest and most extraordinary woods in the world. Native to New Zealand, these monumental trees appeared during the Jurassic period around 190-135 million years ago and can reach heights exceeding 70 meters with trunk diameters of up to 9 meters. Today living Kauri trees are protected by strict legislation and cannot be harvested. The wood used for these tables comes from ancient Kauri forests buried underground approximately 50,000 years ago after natural cataclysms. Preserved in oxygen-free soil, these massive trunks remained intact for millennia, maintaining the properties of freshly cut wood. Each table therefore contains a unique fragment of prehistoric natural history. The base is made of iron with a tubular section lacquered in Irondust color. Its essential structure provides stability while creating a refined contrast with the organic and ancient character of the top. By translating the original concept into a square format, Kauri Earth Square introduces a new visual rhythm while preserving the powerful narrative of material, nature, and design.
