About the Item

This striking copper wall plate was crafted by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) around 1900, during the height of the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements. The design features a deeply embossed floral motif characteristic of the Jugendstil aesthetic, with flowing lines and stylized natural forms radiating from the center. The central medallion displays a symmetrical six-petaled structure framed by delicate flower clusters, while the wide rim is adorned with repeating botanical ornaments in finely detailed repoussé work. The plate retains its original warm copper finish and shows a beautifully aged patina, particularly on the reverse side. The wall mount has been renewed to ensure secure display, making this plate not only a collector’s piece but also ready to hang and admire. A superb example of WMF's craftsmanship and their important role in the German Art Nouveau period. About WMF: Founded in 1853, WMF is renowned for its innovative and artistic approach to decorative arts. By the turn of the century, WMF was a leading producer of Art Nouveau metalwork, celebrated for its seamless integration of nature-inspired motifs with functionality. WMF pieces, often crafted in silver-plated pewter or brass, were admired for their high quality and intricate designs. This claret jug exemplifies the company’s commitment to artistry and design, making it a cherished addition to any collection of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau treasures.
