Hermès "Poste et Cavalerie" Silk Scarf by Joachim Metz in Museum Acrylic Shadow Box, 1986 An exceptional vintage Hermès Paris "Poste et Cavalerie" silk carré, designed by renowned French artist Joachim Metz and first issued in 1986. Beautifully presented in a custom museum-style floating acrylic shadow box, this iconic Hermès scarf has been professionally mounted to preserve the integrity of the silk while allowing the signature hand-rolled edges to remain fully visible. Inspired by the rich traditions of French military cavalry, Poste et Cavalerie celebrates the decorative regalia of mounted officers. According to the Hermès Fall–Winter 1987–1988 Seasonal Scarf Booklet, the central composition combines an 1814 Hussar sabretache—a richly ornamented flat leather pouch traditionally suspended beside a cavalry saber—with the epaulette of an Imperial Guard lancer. Surrounding these historic elements are finely rendered military tassels, braids, harness ornaments, and ceremonial insignia representing cavalry regiments from the reign of Louis XIV through the First French Empire. This example is presented in one of the most sought-after Hermès palettes, featuring royal blue, ivory, and brilliant gold—a timeless colorway widely admired by collectors for its elegance and versatility. Professionally framed in a premium acrylic floating shadow box using museum-quality materials, the scarf is transformed into a sophisticated work of textile art while remaining fully protected. The contemporary presentation beautifully showcases the craftsmanship of the silk twill and makes it ready to hang in a living room, library, dressing room, office, or luxury boutique interior.
