About the Item

This French Art Deco charger, by Claudius Linossier, was created using the technique known as dinanderie, which involved decorating hammering out copper vessels to produce subtle but beautiful gradations of color. The charger features concentric circles of decoration including a serpentine border, brass and silver diamonds, volute pattern, a reverse scallop medallion of pebble silver and brass inlay and a small spiral center. Signed: CL-LINOSSIER Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: Claudius Linossier became an apprentice metal worker in his birthplace of Lyon when he was quite young, soon moving to Paris to continue his work as a silversmith, joining Jean Dunand for three months to study his techniques. Linossier did not stay working with silver for very long, however, as it was quite costly at the time, and he instead devoted himself exclusively to dinanderie. His pieces can be found in many museums and private collections.
