About the Item

A set of two large ceramic panels featuring the iconic "Navette" motif, created by the artist in the late 1950s. The chromatic range is exceptionally luminous and rare in this arrangement of different blues, alternating between surfaces of white hammered tiles and surfaces with generous glazes. Originally created for one of the Parisian branches of the Banque de France, the art tiles had been meticulously dismantled and reassembled, strictly respecting the original arrangement conceived by the artist. A small number of tiles may have very slight chips or superficial scratches, which do not detract from the beauty of this truly spectacular set. Only one tile has undergone professional restoration. Each piece is 2meters high by 1 meter wide. Additional photos are available upon request. Note that our delivery offer applies to the east coast and may be subject to variations; please contact us for an update. About the Artist Roger Capron (1922-2006) is one of the most proeminent ceramicists of french post war period. Graduated and then teacher at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, he moved to Vallauris in 1946 to produce mainly decorative pieces. He is a major actor in the rebirth of this village of potters marked by the presence of Picasso. From 1963, Roger Capron devoted exclusively his production towards art tiles and decorative panels. Two of his most famous achievements are the Harbour station in Cannes in 1957 and the entire decoration of the Byblos Hotel in St Tropez in 1968. Awarded at the triennial of Milan in 1954 and at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels in 1958, his artistic and architectural expression has been the subject of numerous exhibitions throughout the world with a great retrospective in 2003 at the French National Museum of Ceramic.
