About the Item

A pair of antique framed tile panels depicting decorative Neoclassical portraits. Dating to circa 1870, each plaque is carefully hand painted in a tonal blue on a vivid ochre background. The woman is displayed with a crescent moon to represent the night, while the bearded man is accompanied by shells and waterlily. The wooden frames with a dark stained finish allow the prints to stand out and showcase their fine details. The perfect decorative wall art for a traditional home looking to add style and charm. A makers stamp can be seen to the reverse, although indistinct, it adds intrigue and an element of history to the pair. Additional dimensions Dimensions are for each tile.

Good structural condition. There is minor wear and rubbing to the frames, as well as rubbing and surface wear to the tiles. There is some crazing to the female figure particularly the lower left quarter. The tiles protrude by 12mm behind the frame.
