Pair of Architectural Etchings by Giovanni Piranesi. One presents a grand panoramic view of St. Peter's Basilica, with Bernini's sweeping colonnades embracing the vast piazza. Piranesi masterfully balances architectural monumentality with urban life, rendering the basilica's massive dome, portico, and surrounding cityscape with extraordinary depth and clarity. The other depicts the Arch of Constantine, one of Rome's most important surviving triumphal monuments. Piranesi emphasizes the arch's weathered stone, sculptural reliefs, and imposing scale, juxtaposed with small figures that heighten the sense of historical drama.
