About the Item

Eugène de Sala (1899–1987) Expressive surrealist composition executed in black ink directly on a vintage newspaper page from the Danish publication Søndags BT. Signed “de Sala” lower margin. The printed newspaper text forms an integral part of the composition, creating a striking contrast with the free, gestural ink work. Organic, almost figurative forms move dynamically across the surface, giving the piece a raw and experimental character. The work is believed to have been created in Paris circa 1920–30 and relates stylistically to the modernist and surrealist movements that shaped the city’s artistic environment during the interwar years, when artists actively explored the interplay between text, collage, and free form.
