About the Item

A beautiful, nude pastel drawing by Swiss artist Julie Schätzle (1903-1996). The drawing, executed on thick paper, comes in its original wood frame. Signed by the artist (see photo) however not dated. The drawing most likely dates from around the 1960s. Julie Schätzle was a Swiss painter and graphic artist born in Basel. She was a founding member of Circle 48: an artists' group in Basel formed in 1948. Julie Schätzle was a trained needlework teacher. Starting in 1937, she attended painting and drawing courses with Arnold Fiechter and Albrecht Mayer at the Basel General Trade School . Schätzle created numerous portraits of children and families, including small-format collages in the early 1970s . She exhibited her works in solo and group exhibitions, including at the Kunsthalle Basel. The Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt and the Basler Kunstverein have acquired her works. In good vintage condition. The pastel drawing has been well protected under glass. No signs of humidity, no fading. Dimension: height 33 cm/ 13", width 25.5 cm/ 10", depth 2 cm/ 3/4".
