The work depicts the dramatic and historically celebrated subject “The Abduction of the Sabine Women,” a theme painted by leading Old Master artists from the Renaissance through the Baroque era. Rendered with the dynamic movement, muscular anatomy, and emotionally charged composition associated with Rubens’ studio, this painting embodies the hallmarks of Flemish Baroque—swirling drapery, bold chiaroscuro, expressive gestures, and theatrical storytelling rooted in Classical antiquity.
