About the Item

Antique etching by renowned Danish artist Søren Lund. The etching has a motive of a man with a church bell on a horse carriage and a church in the background. The piece has a qoute saying: I Hundrede Aar den Klokke ringed ud over Horne Sogn - Da kom jo Bispen fra Kjøbenhavn. Han tinged, fik Klokken paa Vogn. Med Firespand naaed de Byens Skel; da hjalp ej de mægtigste Drag. Men Klokken kørtes tilbage igen af to Smaaheste i Mag. (For a hundred years the bell had rung out over Horne Parish – Then the bishop came from Copenhagen. He bargained and got the bell on a wagon. With four horses they reached the town’s border; then even the strongest pull did not help. But the bell was driven back again by two small horses, with ease.) Søren Jørgensen Lund (1852-1933) was a Danish artist affiliated with “Fynbomalerne” amongst Johannes Larsen, Peter Hansen, Fritz Syberg and Anna Syberg. He was born on Funen and educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Personally he experienced great sorrow in loosing both two wives and two children, which greatly affected his life and artwork. The etching is pencil signed, signed and dated in print and framed in elegant, black painted wooden frame... The print is in good condition with wear in form of age signs on the paper and marks on the frame. Please see the photos.
