About the Item

An elegant pair of oil paintings on panel depicting traditional and rustic scenes, titled “Basque Customs,” created by the Spanish painter C. Vidaime around the beginning of the 20th century. In the first work, we find a scene of agricultural work, what appears to be the felling of trees by the axe held aloft by the upright figure, and the logs lying on the ground. In the second, a bullfighting scene in which a human figure seems to be running in front of two bulls, while behind them three figures, seemingly the bullfighting team, surround them ready to intervene. The style of the works is simple, without a defined background, and drawn with very subtle, streaked brushstrokes, probably due to the texture of the bristles of the brushes used. Costumbrismo was an artistic trend or movement that reflected the customs and traditions of society, referring to a specific region or country and its traditional folklore. It emerged in Europe, especially in Spain and France, during the 18th and 19th centuries. He sought to portray daily life, often focusing on the working classes, both rural and urban, capturing moments that reflected cultural identity, folklore, and local customs. Typically, the subjects were not great historical figures, but ordinary people. In Spain, costumbrismo (the depiction of everyday life and customs) experienced remarkable development, especially in the 19th century, and was a response to the rapid social and economic changes brought about by industrialization. The paintings are presented framed in black wood frames carved with moldings and a rectangular braided texture. The last section closest to the panel is gilded, a way of drawing attention to the artwork. We will contact you to arrange shipping and agree on a quote. Shipping costs include professional, custom-made packaging and personalized delivery with tracking and a guarantee. The frame protecting the artwork is offered as a gift, but it has intrinsic value. It is provided at no extra cost so that when your artwork arrives at your home or destination, it can be displayed immediately. Any damage to the frame itself, which does not affect the integrity of the artwork, cannot be accepted as a valid reason for filing a claim or requesting a cancellation. French Painting "Dahlias and Camellias" Paul Bazé, midcentury France

French Painting "Dahlias and Camellias" Paul Bazé, midcentury France

By Paul Robert Brock

Located in Valladolid, ES

Impressive and very beautiful oil on panel made by Paul Robert Bazé, an artist of French origin. It represents a still life with a bouquet of flowers in the foreground on a dark background. It mainly shows dahlias and camellias, which give the work its name. The traditional still life genre shows its evolution here. It presents the characteristic style of the genre to which it corresponds, realistic and meticulous, especially noticeable in the way it works with the different qualities of the flowers and leaves. The dark background is also inherited from the still life genre, with a marked dark interest reflected in the dark backgrounds. Signed in the lower left corner. Paul Robert Bazé (1901-1985) was born in Paris, although he soon moved to Bayonne and then to Bordeaux, where he was a student of Paul Quinsac...
