About the Item

Spanish School 17th Century: Triptych of the Adoration Oil on panel. Total height: 145 cm; Total width: 96 cm Restorations. In an antique molded oak frame. Our important triptych of the Adoration is structured around a central panel depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds, flanked by Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Teresa. This beautifully executed painting, characteristic of the triptych tradition inherited from the Primitives, introduces colors and a composition that reflect Italian and Spanish influences. The choice of a representation of the Adoration surrounded by Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Teresa is not accidental; it is characteristic of the Counter-Reformation and was probably commissioned for a series of artworks. It is interesting to observe, through this painting, the cross-pollination between the different European schools during the 16th and 17th centuries. Good condition
