About the Item

Fine pair of oil paintings on copper depicting pastoral scenes with cattle and sheep surrounded by wooded landscapes. The works, which can be dated to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, show clear affinities with Nordic pastoral painting in the Dutch and Flemish spheres, particularly the production of Michiel Carree, an artist who specialized in animated landscapes and rural scenes. The quality of animal rendering, luministic atmosphere, and landscape construction also recall the pictorial tradition of artists close to the circle of Nicolaes Berchem and Philipp Peter Roos, known as Rosa da Tivoli. One of the two branches has an old handwritten inscription on the back referring to "M. Carree," probably affixed in the collecting era. The painting shows a hand of good quality, with interesting light effects, deep glazes, and considerable attention to the rendering of animals. The paintings are mounted in elegant, newly produced frames. Oils on copper. Size of branches: 25 x 18 cm each. Measurements with frame: 34.5 x 27.5 cm. Good overall conservative condition, with normal signs of time. Per ulteriori informazioni, foto o dettagli tecnici, non esitate a contattarci.
