Additional Details: Ernest Couronneau is an artist born in the 19th century and died in the 20th century. A superb tourist poster published in 1923 by the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranean (PLM) railway company and signed by Ernest Couronneau. It highlights the medieval ramparts of Aigues-Mortes, an emblematic fortified town of Languedoc, founded in the 13th century by Saint Louis. The artist offers us a peaceful and bucolic scene, where a shepherd and his sheep graze quietly at the foot of the impressive ramparts bathed in golden light. The play of reflections in the water and the warm colors give the whole a charm that is both historical and pastoral. This poster was part of a campaign designed to promote car tours departing from Avignon, encouraging the discovery of the heritage of the south of France thanks to the new mobility of the early 20th century.
