Originally published in *De Zoogdieren: afgebeeld en in hunne levenswijze geschetst*, this print exemplifies early zoological illustrations' dedication to anatomical precision and lifelike representation. The Greyhound, one of the oldest dog breeds, has origins tracing back to ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Revered for its speed, agility, and hunting abilities, it was historically used for coursing and later became a favorite in racing and companionship. The English Mastiff, a large and powerful breed, has been known since antiquity, used as a guard dog, war dog, and protector. These dogs were widely kept in England for estate security and have since become loyal companions known for their gentle temperament. Created by C.C. G. Zool. and printed by La Haye & J. L. G.
