About the Item

The frame housing this color silkscreen on paper by Marco Lodola was recently crafted by a master Florentine artisan. The framer added four gleaming mirrors along the flat perimeter, each slightly angled outward, and finished both the outer surface and inner edge with an elegant gilding. The result is a luminous, refined, and visually striking effect. Marco Lodola, born in Dorno (Pavia) in 1955, studied at the Fine Arts Academies of Florence and Milan. In the early 1980s, he became one of the leading figures of the “New Futurism,” a movement theorized by art critic Renato Barilli. His work is distinguished by vibrant colors, essential silhouettes, references to pop culture—such as Vespas, automobiles, pin-up figures, and dancers—and by the use of materials including Plexiglas, lights, and neon in his sculptures. This composition, created in the late 20th century, portrays Marilyn Monroe in a pose that became iconic thanks to the famous photograph in which a burst of air from a subway grate lifts her dress. In Lodola’s interpretation, the dress is replaced with a bright red heart. The internal format, approximately 45 × 21 cm (17.7 × 8.3 in), is rather unusual and emphasizes the horizontal development and rhythmic sequence of the figures. Renowned for his ability to merge art, light, design, and pop imagery, Lodola expresses in this work the core principles of New Futurism and the energetic immediacy of contemporary visual communication. The repetition of figures, the clarity of the linework, and the intensity of the colors offer the viewer a modern, vibrant, and unmistakably iconic visual experience. The artwork bears the number “28/70” in the lower left corner, indicating that it is the 28th print from a limited edition of 70. It is a visually impactful piece, characterized by vivid tones and emblematic silhouettes that fully embody Lodola’s pop-modern aesthetic. The work is in excellent overall condition. Dimensions: width 70 cm (27.6 in), height 56 cm (22 in), depth 3 cm (1.2 in).
