About the Item

A striking and vibrant serigraph titled Mother and Child by the celebrated Dutch CoBrA artist Karel Appel (1921–2006), dated 1972. Once you know the title, the composition reveals itself beautifully — a tender yet powerful depiction of a mother and child rendered in Appel’s signature style, with vivid primary colours of yellow, blue, red, green and orange, characteristic bold black outlines, and expressive swirling eyes. The print is hand-signed by Karel Appel in the lower right corner and numbered 34/100 in the lower left, making this a rare limited-edition original serigraph (screenprint). Presented in a simple aluminium frame. Karel Appel was one of the most important post-war European artists and a founding member of the influential CoBrA movement, alongside Asger Jorn and Constant. His works are held in major museum collections worldwide and remain highly sought after by collectors and art lovers. A rare opportunity to acquire a hand-signed and numbered work by one of the leading figures of 20th-century European art. Condition: The print is in very good condition with vivid colours and clean paper. The aluminium frame shows some age-related wear and light oxidation in the corners, which does not affect the print itself. The frame can easily be replaced if desired. Measurements: Print: 77 x 55 cm / 30.3" x 21.7" · Framed: 90 x 63 cm / 35.4" x 24.8"
