About the Item

One of a Set of Four different scenes available. This print featuring soldiers from the Lithuanian Tartars of the Imperial Guard, a light cavalry squadron that served in the French Army under Napoleon from 1812 to 1814. This specific artwork depicts the uniforms of this unit. The print is labeled for the "3x Régiment d'Éclaireurs", which translates to "2nd Regiment of Scouts". The Lithuanian Tatars were attached to the 3rd Lithuanian Lancers Regiment of the Imperial Guard to serve as scouts. The squadron was officially formed in October 1812 during Napoleon's invasion of Russia and experienced significant losses during the campaign. The artist is not explicitly mentioned on the print face, but similar prints are often attributed to prominent 19th-century military artists such as Alfred de Marbot or Richard Knötel.  Some minor chips to frame have been painted in so not visible.
