Title: Unique 1806 Vamana Vishnu Dwarf Avatar Antique Print - Hindu Engraving Description: This fascinating antique print, titled "Vme Incarnation de Vichenou, en Nain Brame," depicts Vamana, the dwarf avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, one of his ten principal incarnations (Dashavatara). Vishnu is portrayed as a small Brahmin, holding a parasol and a water pot, symbols of humility and divine authority. The deity’s diminutive stature contrasts with his ornate attire, featuring intricate jewelry and flowing garments, emphasizing his divine power. The detailed line work captures the texture of the parasol, the patterns of the clothing, and the serene expression of the deity, reflecting the mythological significance of Vamana, who tricked the demon king Bali to restore cosmic balance. The copperplate engraving was created by Jean-Baptiste Marie Poisson after an illustration by Pierre Sonnerat, a renowned French naturalist and explorer.
