Inspired by the rich traditions of French military cavalry, Poste et Cavalerie celebrates the decorative regalia of mounted officers. According to the Hermès Fall–Winter 1987–1988 Seasonal Scarf Booklet, the central composition combines an 1814 Hussar sabretache—a richly ornamented flat leather pouch traditionally suspended beside a cavalry saber—with the epaulette of an Imperial Guard lancer. Surrounding these historic elements are finely rendered military tassels, braids, harness ornaments, and ceremonial insignia representing cavalry regiments from the reign of Louis XIV through the First French Empire.
