About the Item

An exquisite and very rare 16th century renaissance Silk brocade fragments mounted and artistically displayed in the Glas case on the antique linen. Both fragments are greatly preserved and originated by its design from famous Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The ornaments contain flowers, jaguars, birds and Fleur De Lis- the symbol of royalty. The colours remain vibrant and parts of golden embroidery/ threads are in very good condition considering the age. Both fabrics belonged and were part of the collection of famous Alex Brunet. He was a passionate defender of Heritage and had a remarkable collection of art from the Haut Epoque period which inspired and continues to inspire art enthusiasts and collectors alike. French 17th Century Baroque Silk Damask Textile, Hand-Woven, 2'1 x 5'1

French 17th Century Baroque Silk Damask Textile, Hand-Woven, 2'1 x 5'1

Located in New York, NY

French 17th century Baroque silk damask textile 2'1 x 5'1. Going for Baroque? Everything is dramatic. Think Caravaggesque paintings. Sculptures carved furniture. Everything is designed to impress. This textile, originally a section of a longer bolt, displays more than one repeat of a bold, complex cartouche and acanthus pattern in yellow-ochre and raspberry-red. The twisting foliage makes it three dimensional. What a great wall piece! You don’t have to be fluent in art history or in the language of period decoration to appreciate this eye-catching object. It is a full loom width and is mounted on board ready to hand. And the furnishing context can be modern. Think of it as another piece of wall candy, like an abstract painting. Condition for a textile of this age is good. The cranberry...
