About the Item

Dating to circa 1875, this giltwood barometer and cartel set were hand-carved in France in the style of Louis XVI. The pieces are identically carved, with the highlight being a stunning display of a detailed woven basket, brimming with an array of vibrant flowers, perched gracefully atop a fluted entablature adorned with a scalloped leaf motif. A fluted neck is enveloped in beading that gracefully descends to the convex clock and barometer faces. Flanking the faces are curved and fluted cornucopias, generously laden with an assortment of luscious fruits. Further enhancing their aesthetic appeal, you’ll find other captivating motifs such as a tasseled roundel, leaf cups, and intricately designed foliate stalks. Beneath the barometer is a thermometer (we cannot attest functionality), while the clock has a small vertical mirror instead. Whether gracing the walls of a hallway, library, or living room, this captivating giltwood set is sure to make a statement with a lasting impression. Pairs such as this, in carved giltwood, are rather unusual.
