About the Item

I offer for sale a copper sculpture panel made in Italy around the middle of the 20th century through the artisanal technique of metal embossing. Purchased during the dismemberment of an old apartment in Rome, we deduced by observing this decorative wall panel that it was designed to be embedded in a structure or a wall, and probably born as a decoration for a fireplace. The decorative motif recalls cubism and therefore primitivism, for composition, symbolism and use of perspective. it can be observed in the particular perspective with which the table top is made on which a mandolin and a vase of flowers decorated with the Greek theme of the discus thrower are placed; or in the two bottles positioned at the ends of the panel whose body is made with 2 men's faces positioned in profile. The copper panel on which this composition is made was worked in relief and then bent and fixed on a frame made of wooden slats, when we recovered it we made the two missing ones in fir wood and matched the color to the older ones by fixing them with brass nails, since the original rivets were lost. We subjected the panel to a deep cleaning without wanting to erase the splendid patina of the time that characterizes it. It is in good vintage condition, it shows minimal signs of use and time highlighted in the photos.

Refinished. Additions or alterations made to the original: Two wooden slats that make up the frame have been replaced and also some of the nails that fix the panel to the frame. Wear consistent with age and use. The item is in good vintage condition, it has been cleaned and subjected to a conservative restoration and shows a splendid patina of time.
