About the Item

A pair of English antique terracotta capitals by renowned terracotta English manufacturer JM Blashfield. Dating to circa 1860, this pair of decorative composite order capitals are a fragment from architectural history, preserved through time for more than 160 years. They are in composite style detailed eye catching stylised fish and characterful time worn shells in a buff terracotta with a well weathered surface finish. In a Greek or Roman style look, these decorative architectural capitals make an impressive interior piece. J M Blashfield John Marriott Blashfield manufactured terracotta architectural and garden items between 1840 – 1875, which were sold throughout England and internationally. His works are noted for their fine detailing and pale terracotta colour. This renowned maker started production at Millwall, London and then in 1858 he moved to Stamford in Lincolnshire.
