Exquisite Original Antique Pair of Late Edwardian Era Dormeuse Earrings with shimmering nearly 9CT of Old European cut Diamonds. Most beautiful and unique European jewelry was made during that era right before Art Deco hit the world with it's straight lines! Two large bottom diamonds are shy 4ct each: 3.97ct and 3.98ct , JM-N color, SI clarity, eye clean and extremely bright and sparkly. The top small Old European diamonds are 0.80cts K-L color VS clarity The diamonds faces up very well and looks warm white in natural light,and only very light yellow under a powerful diamond grading light with a 10x loupe ... The length 18.71mm. The weight is 5.91gr Created in platinum ( tested ), later 14K white gold back ( stamped) The Edwardian style of the mountings is classically elegant for day or for night. The pair is not hallmarked but we sure of it's European origin. TRULY ONE-OF-A-KIND! Condition report Amazing condition tell us that these earrings were most likely staying in one family without being sold and re-sold. Overall light wear commensurate with age and use. All diamonds are present and appear original, no visible chips. Apart from the later french liver back fittings ( 14k stamped), which have been neatly done with soft solder patches, no other signs of damage or repair to the mounts, just overall rubbing and general ware. When judging diamonds in antique jewelry, one must be careful not to judge antique diamonds by modern standards. Antique diamonds have a soft romantic glow that many people find very appealing. Antique diamonds were cut to maximize carat weight and the brilliance. Diamonds were cut by hand until the early 1900's. This was a laborious, time-consuming process. Unfortunately, many antique diamonds have been re-cut over the years and start disappearing. This has caused demand for these old cut diamonds to rise in recent years, along with the prices that people are willing to pay for them. Retail Value $78,900.
