Twisted hoops Earrings designed by Donald Claflin for Tiffany & Co. This is a rare pair of hoop clips-on earrings designed by Donald Claflin for Tiffany & Co., dating to 1973. These clip-on earrings were crafted in Paris, France, and feature elegant twisted rope patterns. They are made of solid 18-karat yellow gold with a high-polished finish. The design is composed of thick, twisted wires of varying gauges, creating dynamic, free-form elements with a sculptural quality characteristic of Claflin’s work. The earrings are fitted with concealed hinged French omega backs for secure clip-on wear, and posts for pierced ears can be easily added if desired. Overall, this pair represents a distinctive example of 1970s design, combining bold form, fine craftsmanship, and the playful yet sophisticated aesthetic associated with Donald Claflin’s creations for Tiffany & Co. Hallmarks: They are both stamped with French marks, the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the 18Kt yellow gold and signed as follows, "TIFFANY & CO.© .750 Ste. SGDG", in addition they are stamped with British imports marks for the city of London, the retailer mark T&CO. and the letter code S for the assay date of 1973. Donald Claflin He was an American jewelry designer most associated with the colorful and whimsical designs he created for tiffany & co. during the sixties and seventies. His start in jewelry came when he joined the firm of David Webb, known for their buoyantly enameled figurative jewels that were a fresh contrast to the formality of the fifties. In 1965 Claflin was hired by tiffany & co. to continue in the innovative and individualistic design approach that designer Jean Schlumberger had so successfully established at the firm.
