This fine 5.66 carat natural red spinel from Vietnam’s famed Luc Yên deposit displays the vivid saturation, strong brilliance, and pure red colour that have made Vietnamese spinels among the most sought-after coloured gemstones in the modern collector market. Expertly fashioned in an elegant antique cushion cut, the gemstone measures 10.83 × 9.14 × 6.54 mm, offering a generous face-up appearance and excellent balance between depth and spread. The cutting style combines a brilliant crown with a step-style pavilion, producing crisp internal reflections and lively flashes of red across the stone’s surface. In daylight the gemstone presents a vivid, energetically saturated red with a desirable medium-deep tone, as described in the accompanying Lotus Gemology report. The colour remains rich and stable under different lighting conditions, showing bright cherry and fire-red flashes under direct illumination while maintaining a warm, glowing crimson character in softer light. The crystal exhibits excellent transparency and strong internal light return, allowing the stone’s vivid colour to remain uninterrupted across the face-up view. A small internal inclusion is present but becomes noticeable only under strong back-lighting and does not impact the overall visual appearance when the stone is viewed normally. According to the accompanying Lotus Gemology laboratory report (Lotus Gold), the stone shows no indications of heating or treatment. Natural spinel is rarely enhanced, and untreated stones displaying vivid red colour and good clarity in this size range are increasingly scarce. Vietnamese marble-host spinels from Luc Yên have gained particular prominence since the early 2000s for their pure red colour and strong fluorescence-like brilliance. Production from these deposits has declined significantly over the past decade, making well-cut stones with vivid saturation increasingly difficult to source. With its striking colour, classic cushion proportions, and certified Vietnamese origin, this gemstone would be well suited for a high jewellery ring or pendant, or as a distinguished addition to a serious coloured gemstone collection.
