About the Item

A historic turquoise and sterling silver Fleur-de-Lis squash blossom necklace, Navajo, c. 1940. The necklace is 22.75". The naja is 2" x 1.62". The chain can be shortened to suit the wearer. Elegance personified. This is a finely crafted and delicate example of the classic squash blossom necklace almost entirely in silver with turquoise tipped naja. The motifs in the squash blossom necklace have a long multicultural history, originating possibly with the Moors in North Africa, and migrating via the Spaniards to the New Mexican territories. Navajo or Dine people however were the first to introduce the necklace with both blossoms and naja, sometimes entirely in silver and sometimes with turquoise.

This flattering creation seamlessly combines exceptional design with exquisite silversmithing craftsmanship. The necklace rests comfortably on the neck and will spark conversation at any gathering. Lella Valle Vignelli, known professionally as Lella Vignelli, was an Italian designer born in 1934 and passed away in 2016.
