About the Item

An extraordinary 1960s Boucheron diamond necklace, conceived as a stylized musical composition and executed in platinum with approximately 111 carats of diamonds. The necklace is designed as a fluid, highly articulated ribbon reminiscent of musical notes in motion. Graduated and tapered baguette-cut diamonds form the sweeping upper structure, interspersed with round brilliant-cut diamonds, while an elaborate cascade of articulated diamond-set elements falls gracefully from the front of the necklace. The necklace is set with approximately 271 baguette-cut diamonds totaling 67.00 carats and 130 round brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 39.50 carats. Two additional principal round brilliant-cut diamonds weigh approximately 2.25 and 2.60 carats respectively, bringing the overall diamond weight to approximately 111 carats. The combination of baguette and brilliant cuts is particularly effective: the crisp geometry and linear flashes of the baguettes contrast beautifully with the brilliance of the round diamonds, giving the necklace both architectural definition and remarkable movement. Despite its extraordinary scale, the construction remains exceptionally supple. The numerous articulated sections allow the necklace to follow the contours of the neck and décolletage rather than sitting as a rigid collar — an important element of the craftsmanship behind a jewel of this complexity. Created in France and mounted entirely in platinum, the necklace weighs approximately 163 grams. Its asymmetrical musical-note motif, substantial diamond weight and sophisticated engineering are characteristic of the imaginative high-jewelry work for which Boucheron became celebrated during the mid-20th century.
