The Lapis Lazuli chain is detachable so the cameo can be worn as a brooch if desired. The pendant has an extraordinary hand carved cameo image of a neoclassical goddess maiden in Lapis Lazuli. Carving of cameos in hardstone such as Lapis is exceedingly difficult and requires the skills of an extraordinary artisan. The face of the woman is serene and beautiful. The carving is very deep and of museum quality with extraordinary details in the face and hair of the woman. This is one of the finest hard stone cameos we have seen. The cameo is set in a 14 Karat Gold frame. It has a surmount of applied three dimensional leaves at the top. The cameo is surrounded by a halo of elegant seed pearls. The pendant is further adorned with black enamel set within exquisite gold scroll work. The artistry and craftsmanship of this masterpiece are of the highest quality. The fine blue lapis lazuli cameo surrounded by gold leaves, pearls, black enamel and exquisite gold work is just extraordinary.
