This rare and distinctive antique medallion pendant is beautifully crafted in 14 karat yellow gold in the form of an ornately detailed book. The front cover is richly decorated with an intricate engine-turned and scrolled border design, showcasing the refined goldsmithing techniques of the 19th century. Mounted on the cover is a finely carved black onyx hand, realistically rendered with delicate fingers and a decorative cuff, which likely symbolizes fidelity, remembrance, or protection, motifs frequently used in sentimental Victorian jewelry. The hand rests across the book as though it is gently closing it, creating a striking visual composition. The locket opens like a miniature book to reveal two oval-framed compartments inside, one containing an early photographic portrait of a young woman, the other retaining its original protective insert (which can hold a photo or memento, unfortunately one compartment cover is missing). The interior is further embellished with engraved details around the bezels and framed with beaded borders A gold loop is attached at the spine, allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant or charm.
