Skull Lighter Case Holder Palladium Pink Enamel Vintage Paris
Designer: J DAUPHIN
The Skull Lighter Case is a rare archive object, handcrafted in Paris in 2008 and finished in palladium plating. A cylindrical case sized to hold a mini lighter, it is wrapped in silver chain and set on the face with a skull and crossbones, the skull picked out in light pink glitter enamel and rhinestone crystals. It measures 2.5 inches high and 1 1/16 inches wide, and fits a standard mini lighter. Never used, it carries light surface marks and a softening of the shine from age.
This is an original from the J Dauphin private archive and the only one that exists. It comes from the founding period of the brand, the early Parisian years.
The skull and crossbones is the oldest memento mori, worn since the seventeenth century.
J Dauphin was founded in 2006 by the Swedish French designer Johanna Dauphin. She built her foundation as a designer at Fendi and Tod's in Italy, then worked across Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. A multiple award winning designer highly recognised as an accessory and jewelry designer, her work has been featured in Vogue, W Magazine, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle across numerous countries, and carried by the world's most prestigious luxury stores including Lane Crawford, Bergdorf Goodman, H Lorenzo, United Arrows, Isetan, Le Bon Marché, Matches, and Harvey Nichols. She has made custom pieces for musicians and royalty such as Keith Richards, Def Leppard, Brandi Carlile, Uma Thurman and more. Every piece is made entirely by hand using old school artisanal methods. The work draws on Victorian iconography and ancient symbols and treats jewelry as a modern talisman, contemporary relic, spiritual protection, alignment and healing.
