This extraordinary statement ring features a massive natural turquoise nugget—an impressive 26mm boulder of old-stock, untreated turquoise hand-cut in the mid-20th century as a bead, and later repurposed by a Navajo silversmith into a remarkable wearable sculpture. Stones of this size and quality simply do not exist in contemporary production, making this a rare survivor from the golden age of American turquoise. The turquoise displays a saturated, robin’s-egg blue with a striking black iron-oxide matrix—often associated with early Nevada mines such as Blue Diamond or high-grade Kingman black web. The matrix is bold, natural, and unfilled, with the desirable “asphalt” character seen only in old mining eras. The stone retains its original bead-drilled perforation, invisible in wear but prized by collectors as evidence of authentic vintage provenance. The handmade sterling silver setting frames the nugget with sculptural rings of patinated silver, allowing the turquoise to appear almost suspended. Its construction is unusually robust, with a mid-century Navajo aesthetic: honest, weighty, and entirely hand-wrought. Although currently a size 8, the unique shank design allows a competent jeweler to adjust the ring up or down by approximately two sizes to achieve a perfect custom fit. This piece wears like a small work of art—substantial, dimensional, and full of organic presence. It is the type of turquoise that once adorned early squash blossoms and ceremonial necklaces, rarely encountered today except in private collections and museum holdings. Old-stock material — likely mined between the 1940s and 1970s, when deposits yielded larger high-grade nuggets. Former drilled bead — prized collector feature confirming authenticity and mid-century origins. Unstabilized / untreated — a rarity at this scale; the surface shows natural polish and honest matrix. Handmade Navajo silverwork — sculptural and architectural; not mass-produced. Completely one-of-a-kind — cannot be duplicated with modern turquoise availability. Excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate patina. Turquoise is secure and unaltered; matrix is natural and unfilled; silver shows intentional hand-finished character. Old-mine natural turquoise of this magnitude is nearly extinct in the contemporary market. This example stands as both a wearable jewel and an artifact of Southwestern lapidary history—striking, sculptural, and undeniably rare.
