About the Item

Thomas Russell & Son Liverpool. A Rare Kew A Rating Silver Centre Second Keyless Lever Free Sprung Karrusel Open Face Pocket Watch C1939 Dial: The excellent white enamel dial fully signed Thos Russell & Son, 12 Church Street Liverpool with Arabic numerals and outer minute track. The original gold coloured spade hands with a blued steel centre second hand, complimenting the dial beautifully. Case: The heavy silver case with plain silver back with gold hinges and gold hand set at one o'clock. The inner cover is plain with the case maker Fred Thoms who was one of the most pre-eminent case makers of his time and hallmarks for Chester 1939. Movement: The beautiful gilt three quarter plate movement with Karrusel platform where the balance sits on. The free sprung cock holding the balance rotates at 34 minutes per hour which is quite fast for a karrusel which normally rotates at 52 mins per hour. This is a fine movement which achieved a Kew A rating of 79.3 with a keyless lever escapement fully jewelled with screwed in chatons signed Thos Russell & Son Maker to the Queen. Liverpool. This is a fine and rare Kew A Rating Karrusel Deck watch with a fast carriage invented by a Danish Bahne Bonniksen who was based in London. He patented the invention in 1892. The karrusel was an alternative to a tourbillon as it proved to be robust and less complex to construct. The watch comes with Extracts from the National Physical Laboratory at Kew. This watch would make a fine addition to ones collection. We sell this watch with our own certificate of authenticity and a one year guarantee.
