About the Item

Thomas Russell & Son Liverpool. A Heavy 18ct Yellow Gold Keyless Fusee, Free Sprung Up & Down Open Face Pocket Watch C1906. Dial: The perfect white enamel two piece dial is numbered and signed T.R. Russell, 18 Church Street Liverpool. The black Roman numerals with outer minute track and Arabic numerals at five minute intervals. The unusual power reserve arc being situated at twelve o'clock, commonly known as up & down. The blued steel spade hands with matching blued steel centre second hand and matching power reserve hand. The dial is protected by a mineral glass. Case: The heavy (141grams) 18ct yellow gold case with plain back. The inner cover has two holes, one to set the hands and one to wind the watch. The cases are all numbered and London Hallmarked for 1906. The casemaker is Edgar Wilkins who had his workshop in Upper Charles Street Northampton Square, London. Movement: The superb three quarter plate movement fully numbered and signed T.R. Russell Liverpool, Maker to the Queen. The compensation balance, fully jewelled screwed in chatons, blued steel hairspring with free sprung Tourbillion Style bridge. The movement is a Keyless Fusee lever, with the hands being set by pressing a button in on the inner rim of the case. Russell also had a fallback in case the keyless mechanism stopped working, a key could be used. This pocket watch is indeed rare and unusual watch. I believe that this watch movement was made by the famous clock and watchmaker Victor Kullberg, who designed similar watches. T.R Russell was a prominent retailer to Royalty, Aristocracy and the rich. The watch is in excellent condition. It would make a fine addition to ones collection.
