The composition demonstrates careful attention to anatomical structure, with subtle tonal modelling used to convey the weight and form of the hand as it rests across the cylindrical object. The artist uses delicate graphite shading and smooth tonal transitions to capture the natural curvature of the fingers and the interplay of light across the skin. The surrounding objects — including the rolled scroll and pencil — create a simple still life arrangement that enhances the sense of depth and balance within the composition.
